Why We Built It
The BaneBio team had spent years delivering instruments to tech and biotech businesses across the region. Too often, those deliveries landed in modified office buildings that were never built for lab work. Rooms without the right power. Doorways too narrow for the equipment to fit through. Spaces fighting the science rather than supporting it.
I-270 Tech Labs is our answer to that recurring question, with spaces designed from the ground up for lab work and everything run by a team that understands the equipment and the operational headaches that slow labs down.

Doug Bane, Founder & CEO
"Biotech isn’t just a business here. It’s a community worth building."
Doug has spent more than 35 years around life sciences equipment, though his background is not in the science itself. Rather, it’s in logistics, supply chain, and operations: specifically, 16 years running warehouse operations for a laboratory supply distributor. As a result, he knows the equipment and what it costs to stand up a lab and keep it running.
Doug serves on the board of techfrederick, helping the organization expand its work into biotech and bring more life sciences organizations into the fold. He was also named Volunteer of the Year by the Maryland Tech Council, in recognition for years of donating equipment to the Council’s biohub training facility in Rockville, where the next generation of biopharma and biomanufacturing professionals are getting their start.
Today, Doug runs both BaneBio and I-270 Tech Labs from the shared campus in Frederick, handling all the details of running a lab so Members can focus on the work.

BaneBio and I-270 Tech Labs are two distinct companies with one shared purpose: getting tech and biotech organizations up and running without the overhead and logistics of doing it alone.
BaneBio sources, tests, and services pre-owned lab equipment, and I-270 Tech Labs provides the purpose-built space to put this equipment to work. Members tour the spaces and BaneBio sources the equipment and sets it up.

The Northern Anchor of the BioHealth Capital Region
I-270 Tech Labs sits in southern Frederick County, Maryland, at the northern edge of the BioHealth Capital Region. This corridor, spanning Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia, sits just behind Boston and San Francisco as a leading life sciences hub.
Frederick in particular is where the BioHealth Capital Region is growing the most. Organizations are moving north for the kind of space and cost Montgomery County can no longer offer: all without giving up quick access to DC, Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and three international airports.

Plenty of programs in the region will assign you a mentor, run you through a cohort, or take a piece of your company in exchange for a desk. That’s not us.
Most comparable spaces in the area are government- or college-affiliated incubators, funded by grants. They serve a real purpose. It’s simply a different one. I-270 Tech Labs is privately owned, which means we can offer something the others can’t: professional-grade space, shared top-notch equipment, and expert facility management, with no strings attached.
